Q:        What are the boundaries of Saint Monica’s Parish?

A:         Monday through Saturday at 8:30 A.M. in the Church.  A Communion Service is held on Wednesday mornings.

A:         Confessions are from 4:00 to 4:45 P.M. each Saturday, or anytime by appointment.

Q:        What are the Rectory Office Hours and where is the Rectory located?

The rectory is located at 635 First Avenue.  It is the large brick building on the corners of First and Main Avenues, and First Avenue and Waterloo Road.  The entrance is marked with a sign.  This space houses the Main Administrative Offices for the church, as well as the priests’ residence.

Q:        Where is the church located?

A:        The church is located at 63 Main Avenue, within the whole block of Saint Monica Facilities, including the school buildings, Parish Center and Gymnasium.  There are parking lot entrances to the complex off of Main Avenue, Berwyn Avenue and Bartholomew Road.  The church is completely handicap accessible and air-conditioned, with entrances from the parking lot, as well as the street.

Q:        Where is the Education Center (school) located?

A:        The Education Center is housed in three buildings.  The 1916 Building or the “Old School” houses the library, music and art rooms, parish meeting rooms, and the main auditorium.  Connected by a tramway, the main building houses all classrooms, as well as school and religious education administrative offices, computer room, faculty room, and the cafeteria.  The newest addition is the Parish Center, which houses meeting rooms, a full kitchen and a gymnasium.  The main entrance is located off the main parking lot and is marked by a large sign and entryway.

Q:        Where is the “Parish Center” located?

A:        The Parish Center’s main entrance is located off the main parking lot and is marked by a large sign and entryway.  The Parish center is used for virtually all parish events, including dinners, fund-raisers, meetings, and CYO and School activities.  It is a gym, meeting space and kitchen facility.

Q:        Where is the Religious Education Office located?

A:        The Religious Education Office is located in the Education Center.  The main entrance is located off the main parking lot and is marked by a large sign and entryway.

Q:        How do we reserve time for use of parish facilities?

A:        Any registered parishioner, upon the approval of the staff and\or Pastor, may block out time to use a parish facility for a parish event, pending the space is available.  A form is available in the rectory to be filled out in its entirety.  After the form for your event is submitted, your space will be reserved on the Parish Facilities Schedule.

Q:        How do we register in the parish?

A:        Please call or stop by the Rectory Office during office hours to schedule an appointment to meet with the pastor to register.

Q:        With whom should I speak at the Rectory?

A.        Dolores Eichelberger is the Parish Administrative Assistant and she will be glad to help you with any needs concerning the rectory office.  Terry Carey is the Parish Business Manager and is available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for any financial questions.  Frank Orman is available for concerns pertaining to the Music Ministry, Parish Publications, and the Parish Website.  Catherine Levine is available for concerns and questions about the Parish Bulletin.  Kurt Jeffries and Jim Pierson are available for questions and concerns pertaining to the physical plant and facilities of the parish.

Q:        How do I get a Mass Card?

A.         Please come to the Rectory Office during operating hours.  Announced Masses are said Monday through Saturday at 8:30 A.M.  There are no Sunday intentions. The offering is $10. Unannounced Masses are also available for an offering of $10.

Q:        How do I purchase scrip?

A:         Please come to the Rectory Office during business hours, (Monday through Thursday from 8:30 – 4:30, and Friday from 8:30 – 3:30.) to purchase scrip.  Please write your envelope number on the memo line of your check.

Q:        How do I get an announcement in the bulletin?

A:        Announcements must be submitted to the rectory office by Monday at 12 Noon and are subject to final approval and editing by the pastor or staff.  Announcements must be submitted typewritten.  Preferably, they may be e-mailed to parishbulletin@saintmonicachurch.org, or submitted to the rectory on a CD or 3.5inch disk.  Acceptable formats are: Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher.  Understandably, not everyone has access to a computer, but typed announcements are helpful.  In the case where they must be submitted handwritten, please make sure the text is legible.

Q:        When are Baptisms?

A:        Baptisms are celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, after the 11:30 Mass, and also during the Sunday Liturgy.

Q:        How long is the Baptism Ceremony?

A:         Depending on the number of children, Baptisms on average last between 30 and 45 minutes.

Q:        Are there Baptism classes?

A:        Yes, all parents must attend a Pre-Jordan class before the Baptism. The class is held the 1st Sunday of each month from 11:00 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. in the Parish Center.  Click here for more information on Pre-Jordan!

Q:        What are the requirements for Godparents?

A:         Godparents need to be practicing Catholics.  The exception is made in the case of when the parents of the child to be baptized are of different religions.  The Catholic Godparents need to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from their parish.  The certificate verifies that they are a member of a Catholic Church. Godparents need to be at least 16 years of age and have received all the sacraments. If married, they are in a valid Marriage, i.e. one that was witnessed by a Catholic Priest, in a Catholic Church, unless dispensed from the Catholic form of marriage by a Diocesan Bishop.  Please contact the Pastor with any questions.

Q:        Can I have two Godmothers and/or two Godfathers?

A:         For our records, we need one Godmother and Godfather.

Q:        Can I have a visiting Priest perform the Baptism?

A:         Please contact the Pastor for more information.

Q:        What is the customary donation for Baptism?

A:         The donation is at the discretion of the parents.

Q:        Can I reserve a wedding date?

A:         You must contact the Pastor in order to reserve a wedding date.  Weddings are normally scheduled on Saturdays at 11:00 AM or 2:30 PM. The bride and groom or parent of the bride or groom must be registered in the parish.

Once you have spoken to the pastor about your wedding, there is a guidebook available at the rectory, answering all your questions pertaining to having a wedding here at Saint Monica Church.  Please visit the rectory to obtain one.

Q:        Does Saint Monica Church offer a Pre-Cana Program?

A:         Yes, please contact the rectory for more information.

Q:        Are people who are not registered at Saint Monica Church or who are not being married at the Church allowed to register for the class?

A:         Couples being married at the Church are offered the first opportunity to attend. Other couples may be permitted in the class if space allows or placed on a waiting list.  Please contact the Rectory for further information.
