Elizabeth Ministry
Elizabeth
Ministry is an international movement designed to support women and
their families during the joys, trials and sorrows of the
childbearing years. Elizabeth Ministry’s mission is to cherish

the birth. This support comes in the form of visits, phone calls,
cards, prayer, resources and assistance. The areas of Elizabeth
Ministry include, but are not limited to: pregnancy, birth,
miscarriage, stillbirth, regretted abortions, infant or child death,
crisis or special needs, adoption, fertility and infertility.

Hospitality - Greeters

Monica Church welcomes parishioners to weekly Mass. Each

Lectors
Lectors
proclaim the Word of God each Sunday by reading the sacred
Scriptures at mass. Our goal is to inspire the community to ponder
and meditate on God’s words in their daily lives. Indeed, a
challenge! We do this by making the Liturgy of the Word as
meaningful as possible for the worshiping assembly. Our role in the
Liturgy of the Word also enhances the meaning of the Gospel.
Most
parishioners at St. Monica become a Lector because they have:
1. A
strong desire to proclaim the Word of God to others.
2. The
ability to stand in front of people and feel comfortable.
3. Good
reading and enunciation skills.
There are
certain benefits we enjoy as Lectors:
1. We
serve our church in a meaningful way.
2. We are
enriched through the study of sacred Scripture.
3. We
experience a joy that comes through serving the Lord and others.
4. We
serve God by communicating His words to the parish community.
Serving as a
lector at St. Monica Church is not time consuming. We read at the
Sunday liturgy about once every 6 weeks, and there are no meetings
to attend. Each new lector receives excellent training on the
procedures to follow at Mass, and receives a Workbook containing all
the scripture readings used at mass.
Why
don’t you consider joining the Lector
Ministry? We seek adult and young adult members of the parish who
are baptized, practicing Catholics, and who are 16 years of age or
older.
If you would
like to join, or if you would like to learn more about it, please
contact John Garate by phone or email:

Music
Ministry
(Click to Visit the
Music Ministry Page!)
The Music Ministry of Saint
Monica Church is a full and active program, under the direction of
Mark Cole, Director of Music & Organist of the Parish. The
program consists of a parish choir, a contemporary ensemble, a youth
choir and parish cantors, as well as instrumentalists. We strive to
foster full, active and conscious participation of the assembly
through sung prayer. The Music Ministry is dedicated to enhancing
the beauty of the liturgy, bringing the assembly to a spiritual
level where spoken words cannot reach alone. Following the
guidelines of Vatican II, specifically the Constitution of the
Sacred Liturgy and Music in Catholic Worship, we treasure
our heritage of sacred music, while embracing some of the new
compositions that are written today. It was Saint Monica’s
illustrious son, Saint Augustine, who made the statement, “Those who
sing, pray twice.”

Prayer of the Faithful
Committee
Intercessions are prayers to God
on behalf of others. Each week the Prayer of the Faithful, spoken by
the Lector, is our collective prayer for the needs of others. The
Prayer of the Faithful Committee writes these on behalf of the St
Monica Community. They take into consideration the current
needs of the Church, our government, local community and the broader
world.
Vatican II Constitution on Sacred Liturgy
states that “all Christians, by sense of their baptism have a right
and duty to enjoy the full, conscious and active participation in
liturgical celebration and especially in the celebration of the
Eucharist.” We welcome people, young and old to meet once
every three months to write the “Prayer of the Faithful.” If
you are looking for more active participation in our liturgy, why
not join us at our next meeting? Meetings are quarterly at
7:00 p.m. and last about two hours.
