Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, “This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.”

In the Code of Canon Law, it is required that each parish constitute “a finance council which is governed, in addition to universal law, by norms issued by the diocesan bishop and in which the Christian faithful, selected according to these same norms, are to assist the pastor in the administration of the goods of the parish…” (Can. 537). The members of the Council, drawn from both financial and non-financial professional backgrounds, are appointed by the Pastor and normally serve terms of three years. Their role is to advise the Pastor on the stewardship of temporal resources in order to advance the mission of the parish and the broader Church. They assist in the creation of the yearly budget, approve significant expenditures and projects, and manage the parish investment strategy.

Parishioners who feel called to use their skills, talents, and professional background to assist in the stewardship of the parish's resources are encouraged to contact the Pastor to explore the possibility of serving on Council.
